I got a used bike, today since I had to go to the post office for various things, including mailing claim forms to recover a portion of my unpaid wages from the bankruptcy, mailing souvenirs from my mystery obon vacation, and dealing with the matter of an utterly meaningless dot on some paperwork related to my recent change of address.
In so doing, I realized that in dealing with unpleasant/inefficient beaurocratic matters in foreign languages/cultures I switch to the acquired norms from my experience in Israel/Hebrew, I guess because that was the culture and language of my first non-native occassion, which is both mildly amusing and borderline disastrous in Japan and Japanese...
At any rate, getting the bike has lifted my spirits considerably--and they needed lifting quite badly. Also, I'm really looking forward to my NTT appointment this weekend.
